The National Kidney Association of Michigan with Share Our Strength are hosting, Cooking Matters, with virtual grocery store tours, including tips on budget friendly and healthy foods.
The NKAM has also partnered with United Way to present FEAST, a series of virtual workshops aimed at parents with children from 0-12 to help manage picky eaters and mealtime tantrums, while also promoting positive eating habits.

The MI Mask Aid effort is a partnership between MDHHS, Ford Motor Company, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Michigan Coronavirus Task Force on Racial Disparities chaired by Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II to distribute 4 million free masks to vulnerable populations in Michigan who may not be able to afford them.
Low-income residents, seniors, schools, and homeless shelters will benefit from the MI Mask Aid partnership that is part of the Mask Up Michigan campaign. The effort also is intended to assist minority populations in Michigan who has been adversely affected by COVID-19 due to disparities in health care.
Anyone interested in receiving a free mask contact their local Community Action Agency or MDHHS office, or call the COVID-19 Hotline at 1-888-535-6136. Please note that availability may vary by location.
Caregiver of the month of August: Darlisha Parham
Over the past year, Darlisha has been a dependable caregiver with ExpertCare. She has been providing care for one of our families for the entire duration of her employment. She is being nominated by ExpertCare internal staff because of the way she handled a challenging situation. Darlisha was able to handle this situation with strength and control, which inspired our internal staff members. Being a caregiver requires patience, understanding and using your emotional intelligence, all of which Darlisha has proven she can do. Caregiver of the month of July: Mekkol Cook
Mekkol has been a hard-working caregiver with ExpertCare for the past three years. She is being nominated by ExpertCare because of the positive feedback received from the consumer family she works with. The consumer’s mom shared that Mekkol has been amazing through the COVID 19 pandemic and all of the uncertainty. Mekkol keeps her consumer calm and explains proper safety during this time. ExpertCare is extremely grateful for the amazing services she continues to provide each day. This time has been challenging for many, so we could not be more grateful to have a dependable staff member like Mekkol. Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is conducting a State Health Assessment Survey with people who live across Michigan. This anonymous survey asks Michiganders what could make their community a healthier place to live. The survey should take no more than five minutes to complete.

Caregiver of the month of June: Tawauna Coleman
Over the past six months, Tawauna has been providing great service to the consumers she provides guidance and encouragement to. ExpertCare staff has nominated her because of the great feedback we received from one of the consumer families she works for. The consumer’s mom raved about her staff and how amazing she is with her daughter. The mom stated to the recruiter “She is even therapeutic for me.
