Beginning July 16, 2022, dialing “988” will route calls to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. In 2020, Congress designated 988 as a new three-digit dialing, texting, and chat code for direct connection to compassionate, accessible support for anyone experiencing substance use issues, a suicidal crisis, or mental health-related distress. CARF proudly joins the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention and more than 250 organizations collaborating as promoters of the 988 Messaging Framework.
988 Fast Facts
(source: 988 Messaging Framework)
- 988 is confidential, free, and available 24/7/365, connecting those experiencing a crisis with a network of trained crisis counselors located throughout the U.S.
- Access is available through every landline, cell phone, and voice-over-internet device in the nation.
- 988 call services are available in Spanish, along with interpretation services in multiple languages. Text and chat are currently available in English only.
988’s implementation will strengthen and expand the current lifeline call-center infrastructure and capacity to ensure that trained crisis counselors are available via call, text, and chat. A long-term goal of 988 is building a robust nationwide crisis response system that links callers to community-based providers that can deliver a full range of crisis care services (e.g., mobile crisis teams or stabilization centers), if needed.
CARF strongly supports this effort to streamline access to assistance. This change is the direct result of work by a vast array of stakeholders recognizing the need for lifesaving action, culminating in a strong federal response to suicide.
The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention is supported by CARF President/CEO Brian J. Boon, who serves on its Executive Committee, and Senior Managing Director, Behavioral Health, Michael Johnson.

Caregiver of the month of May: Kyla Solomon and Talita Solomon
For the month of May, we have two exceptional caregivers that deserve to be recognized for the impact they have on their recipient and family. Kyla and Talita both joined the ExpertCare team to provide care for the same recipient. They’ve came together to make a schedule that works for the family to ensure their loved one is cared for whenever they need them. The recipient guardian recently reached out to Expertcare staff to share how thankful she is to have them both helping her out. She shared she recently had an injury that required her to need extra help with her autistic grandson. She stated, “Kyla and Talita never skipped a beat helping me to care for my grandson, including getting me to the emergency room on Saturday. I don’t know what I would do without the two of them.” She went on to say how wonderful both caregivers are, and she is grateful to have them in her family’s lives. We love to hear wonderful feedback from our families and are grateful to have such reliable and caring staff. Thank you, Kyla and Talita, for going above and beyond! ExpertCare truly appreciates everything they do and is very proud to have them represent ExpertCare in the field. Thank you both for your hard work and dedication in changing the lives of others.

Caregiver of the month of April: Chad Wagner
Chad has been a welcome addition to ExpertCare for the past 9 months. In a short period of time, he’s proven to be responsible and dedicated staff to the multiple recipients he provides care for. If any challenges ever arise, he’s quick to find a solution. If he feels there should be any changes to his recipients’ goals to help with their progress, he’s great at documenting and informing ExpertCare. There’s also been many compliments from the recipients’ families or supports coordinators about Chad’s performance. A Supports Coordinator from CLS Oakland reached out a recruiter to let us know how great of a job Chad has been doing with assisting his recipient in maintaining his home and following the goals in his IPOS. He is a valued member of our caregiving team. ExpertCare truly appreciates everything he does and is very proud to have Chad represent ExpertCare in the field. Thank you for your hard work and dedication in changing the lives of others.

Caregiver of the month of March: Sabrina Grant
For the past 4 years, Sabrina has been providing great care for the recipient she works with at ExpertCare. She is being recognized for always demonstrating compassion and for being flexible and reliable staff. The mother of the recipient she works with reached out to ExpertCare to let us know how much Sabrina makes a difference in their lives. She stated that Sabrina is one of the most caring and compassionate people that she’s ever encountered when dealing with her son, as it takes a lot of patience and understanding to help him succeed. Services were temporarily placed on hold due to covid, but mom shared that as soon as they asked Sabrina to return, she made a speedy effort to update her trainings so she could return to work as soon as possible. When she returned, her recipient was overjoyed to have her back, as she was missed. ExpertCare truly appreciates everything she does and is very proud to have her represent ExpertCare in the field. Thank you for your hard work and dedication in changing the lives of others.
